Darkhive Congratulates Alamo Ventures, Commends Efforts to Build Texas' Most Active and Trusted Venture Community
Nearly 10 years after its founding, San Antonio-based investor community and early Darkhive backer builds on its growth across South Texas with a broader investment model and statewide ambitions
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, October 2, 2026 — Alamo Angels, an early Darkhive supporter and investor, today announced it is becoming Alamo Ventures, marking a new chapter for the San Antonio-based investor community.
The new name reflects an investment strategy and community that have expanded beyond the traditional angel model. Alamo Ventures now provides members opportunities to invest across the venture lifecycle, from pre-seed and early-stage companies to growth investments, secondaries, and select pre-IPO opportunities.
"We're building a new playbook for angel investing," said Sebastian Garzon, Managing Partner of Alamo Ventures. "That means meeting founders where they are rather than asking them to fit into our calendar, giving investors access to opportunities across the venture landscape, and building the infrastructure and community to do it at scale. We have a clear goal for where we're headed: to build the most active and trusted venture community in Texas, built from San Antonio and connected across the state."
Since its founding in 2016, the organization has grown to more than 140 accredited investors and has invested more than $10 million across 76 companies, including Darkhive.
"The venture landscape has changed dramatically," said Ben Jones, Chairman of the Board of Alamo Ventures. "Companies are staying private longer, the secondary market has become increasingly active, and compelling opportunities increasingly exist beyond the traditional angel stage. Just as founders have had to evolve, investors have to evolve too. Alamo Ventures gives our members an opportunity to participate across that entire journey, from pre-seed to pre-IPO."
Expanding What Local Investors Can Access
Alamo Ventures' evolving strategy is designed to give members exposure across stages, industries, and geographies while continuing to invest in companies emerging from San Antonio and South Texas. Alamo Ventures has backed Darkhive, a San Antonio-based aerospace and defense technology firm, from our pre-seed round through our $30 million Series B earlier this year.
"There is real value in having an active angel network in your own backyard that not only supports founders early on, but a network that is also invested in a building relationship over time and one that continues to show up as companies grow and pivot. We are incredibly fortunate that this has been precisely our experience in engaging with, what is today, Alamo Ventures,” said Darkhive CEO John Goodson.
“Alamo Angels was one of Darkhive’s first investors, even as the company and our vision were still taking shape. We’re grateful that the relationship continues and didn't end with that first check. This year, they invested in us once again when we raised our Series B. We’re proud to support Alamo Ventures now as they announce their evolution and celebrate what it means for San Antonio founders and the broader Texas ecosystem.”
